Library
Our school library offers German and English books, CDs, DVDs, and videos for children and adults.

Bright and Inviting

Since its move to a new building, the GAIS library has become one of the favorite places for our students and parents to be on campus. It is spacious, bright and cozy, with large colorful sofa cushions to relax on while reading an interesting book from our large collection. There are also computers for students to access programs for taking book quizzes and other reading-related activities.

Besides books in both German and English, our library has a broad collection of German and English audio tapes, CDs, videos, and DVDs. We now also have a special shelf with children and adult books for sale in English and German. Most of the children visit the library once a week with their class to check out materials. The library is an excellent recourse, especially for parents that do not have a German background and may only have limited German materials at home.

Our Librarian Jana Seidel

Jana Seidel, Librarian

I was born and raised in a small town in Saxony. Later I studied at the Teachers Colleges of Leipzig and Kaluga (Russia) to become a teacher. From 1991 on, I taught students in 5th to 10th grade in German, Russian, German as a Second Language and Beginners English.

After relocating to the Bay Area in early 2006, I decided to change my career and started volunteering at my daughter’s school library, leading to my current job as a school librarian at GAIS. I obviously love books and reading in German, English and sometimes Russian. In addition, I like to travel, see the country and learn about the different cultures in the United States.
